Everton manager Ronald Koeman has heaped praise on goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for playing impressively during the Toffees’ 1-0 win over Stoke on Saturday.
Pickford produced a brilliant save in stoppage time to deny Xherdan Shaqiri. The save helped preserve the three points and a clean sheet for the Merseyside club and will be a huge confidence boost to the side.
Koeman said of Pickford, “We know we brought in a really good goalkeeper. He dominated his area today, he’s still young, and he had a great save on that [Shaqiri] shot. That’s really important.”
Pickford arrived at Goodisan Park this summer after playing impressively for Sunderland last season despite the club’s relegation.
He has been touted as a possible future first choice goalkeeper for the England national team and will be expected to play a key role for the Toffees this season.
Wayne Rooney scored the only goal of the game to seal the win for the Toffees.
