Mexico’s squad for the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals against Jamaica includes Jesús “Tecatito” Corona and Armando León, according to a reported list published by TUDN reporter Gibrán Araige.
Araige published the full reported list of 28 players on Thursday, November 5. The Mexican Football Federation has not published its official list yet.
That official list, when it arrives, will be the final word. Until then, every name below is reported, not confirmed.
RECORD reporting matches names on the list, including the Cruz Azul group. TUDN’s Adrián Esparza Oteo reported Andrés Montaño’s place separately on November 5.
The Reported Squad
Goalkeepers: Raúl Rangel (Chivas de Guadalajara), Óscar García (Leon), Álex Padilla (Athletic Club).
Defenders: César Montes (Lokomotiv Moscow), Johan Vásquez (Genoa), Rodrigo Huescas (Copenhagen), Kevin Álvarez (Club America), Jesús Gallardo (Toluca), Israel Reyes (Club America), Diego Campillo (Chivas de Guadalajara), Jesús Orozco Chiquete (Cruz Azul), Mateo Chávez (AZ Alkmaar).
Midfielders: Luis Romo (Chivas de Guadalajara), Gilberto Mora (Tijuana), Obed Vargas (Atletico de Madrid), Erik Lira (Cruz Azul), Santiago Sandoval (Chivas de Guadalajara), Andrés Montaño (Cruz Azul), Álvaro Fidalgo (Real Betis), Isaías Violante (Club America), Erick Sánchez (Club America).
Forwards: Alexis Vega (Toluca), Armando González (Olympiacos), Roberto Alvarado (Chivas de Guadalajara), Julián Quiñones (Al-Qadisiya), Santiago Giménez (Porto), Jesús “Tecatito” Corona (Monterrey), Armando León (NK Osijek).
One detail is worth stating plainly. Some republications of the list still tag Orozco Chiquete as a Chivas de Guadalajara player.
He has played for Cruz Azul since January 2025, and he is listed with Cruz Azul here.
Tecatito Corona Returns After Four Years
Corona is the headline return. The Monterrey winger, now 33, has not played for Mexico since June 5, 2022, against Ecuador in Chicago.
An injury in August 2022 ruled him out of the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Diego Cocca, Jaime Lozano and Javier Aguirre never called him up after that.
He has stayed a regular for Monterrey this season as team captain. His one against one play on the right gives Rafael Márquez direct competition for Roberto Alvarado.
Armando Leon, From Reserved to Reported In
León’s place would be the surprise of the squad. The NK Osijek forward has never been called up by the senior national team.
On November 4, David Medrano reported that the federation had reserved León, a formal step that is not a call up on its own.
Araige’s list now places him in the 28. He has scored five league goals in Croatia this season, and Mexico scored only two goals in four matches in the last window.
Big Names Missing
Henry Martín is not on the reported list. That matches the November 4 report that the Club America forward, with 10 goals in 13 league matches, was likely to miss out.
Luis Ángel Malagón is also absent. Padilla takes the third goalkeeper place behind Rangel and García instead.
Edson Álvarez, Hirving Lozano, Luis Chávez, Raúl Jiménez and Germán Berterame are missing too. Earlier TUDN reporting tied the Jiménez and Chávez absences to injury, and Álvarez’s to a lack of minutes.
Álvaro Fidalgo and César Montes are both in, which settles the doubts that surrounded their places earlier this week.
What Comes Next
The federation is expected to publish the official list later on Thursday, November 5. This article will be updated if that list changes any name.
The squad is due to concentrate in the Riviera Maya. Mexico plays the first leg in Kingston on Saturday, November 14.
The second leg is on Tuesday, November 17, at Estadio BBVA in Monterrey. The winner advances to the Nations League Final Four.
These are Márquez’s first official matches as Mexico head coach. Until the official list lands, the squad above stands exactly as Araige reported it.
