Santiago Giménez’s Last Week
Porto played two competitive matches in the seven days before this match, October 28 to November 3. Giménez started one and was an unused substitute in the other.
On Wednesday, October 28, Giménez made his first start for Porto, in the League Cup quarterfinal against Academico Viseu at Estadio do Dragao.
He hit the post in the first half, then converted a penalty in the 45th minute after a handball by Hugo Gambor. It was the only goal in a 1-0 win.
The strike was his second goal for Porto. It sent the club into the League Cup final four, and he played the full match.
On Saturday, October 31, the picture changed. Samu Aghehowa started up front against Estoril, and Andre Silva came off the bench to score in a 4-0 win.
Giménez stayed on the bench for that full match. Those two matches are the complete seven-day picture, across every competition.
FC Porto vs SSC Napoli Preview
Porto’s season splits in two. In Liga Portugal, Porto is perfect, with ten wins from ten matches, 25 goals scored and four conceded.
In Europe, Porto has lost all three league phase matches. It sits 34th of 36 teams with zero points, and another defeat would leave its knockout hopes in serious trouble.
Napoli is 22nd with three points, inside the playoff places. It beat Bodo/Glimt 4-3 after losses to Arsenal and Villarreal.
Napoli travels without Stanislav Lobotka. The club confirmed a left ankle injury for him on October 29, and Italian reports expect at least a month out.
Giménez’s role on Wednesday is unknown. Francesco Farioli has rotated his strikers, and Aghehowa and Silva both played ahead of him against Estoril.
A start cannot be assumed after he went unused on Saturday. His cup goal gives Farioli a penalty box option if Porto needs a late goal.
