Ex-Chelsea star explains what he expects of Tottenham’s deadline-day signing

Tony Cascarino has said that he expects Serge Aurier to fit in well at Tottenham.

The North London club completed the signing of the 23-year-old Aurier on deadline day for a fee believed to be in the region of £23 million. The Ivory Coast international will be expected to serve as a replacement for Kyle Walker, who joined Manchester City this summer for £50 million.

Aurier will bring in a winning mentality to Spurs having won to Ligue 1 titles with PSG. He also brings in electric pace which can help during counter attacks.

Despite being very talented though, Aurier has developed a reputation for being someone who is difficult to control and Pochettino will have to aim to keep him in check.

Cascarino is confident that the player will succeed with the Lilywhites and said, “Aurier will be the first name on Mauricio Pochettino’s team sheet when he is playing well and the first out of the door when things are going wrong.

“That is the mix you get with the Ivory Coast international and part of the reason why Tottenham Hotspur have signed him at such a competitive price. His history off the pitch balances what he does on it.

“What Aurier will bring to the Spurs team is speed at distance. The 24-year-old right back is unbelievable at getting up and down the line and he will fit perfectly into the way Tottenham play.

“He is lighting quick, the kind of player whose burst of pace will get the crowd on its feet. Nobody will want to take him on, one-on-one, because he gets over wingers like a rash.”
