Stoke City complete major signing from Tottenham Hotspur

Stoke City have completed the signature of Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer for €19.4 million.

Wimmer had indicated his desire to leave Spurs during the summer as he feels that now is the right time that he needs to be playing regular first team football.

He will likely get more opportunities with the Potters and will strengthen the team’s defence following the arrivals of Kurt Zouma and Bruno Martins Indi, also this summer.

The Austrian international Wimmer said that working with Hughes was a big factor which convinced him to join the club and he will likely make his Premier League debut on September 9.

Hughes said of his club’s new signing, “Kevin is an undoubted talent and he will significantly add to the quality of the group of players that I already have at my disposal.

“We put a real emphasis on trying to enhance the defensive areas of the squad this summer and we feel that we have been able to do that.”
