Cedric Soares has become one of the best defenders in the English Premier League over the past few seasons since his arrival to Southampton in 2015.
This progress has been the main reason for the constant rumors linking him with Chelsea, the reigning champions, who are in desperate need of a player with his qualities in the full-back positions.
However, the Daily Echo reports that the Portuguese is focused only on his performances for the club and that he is happy at St. Mary’s.
Soares said about the speculation with Chelsea, “I have a contract, and I am doing my best here. I am always professional, and I am happy.”
Although he later admitted that it is nice to hear that the big clubs are following him, the 25-year-old reiterated that Southampton is his priority.
Soares extended his deal during the previous summer. The new contract has increased his wages and also committed him to stay with the Saints until 2020.
The defender had started his career at Sporting Lisbon, where he spent 16 years. In 2015 he joined Southampton, and since his arrival, he has appeared on 54 occasions.
