Jisheng Gao has officially become the Southampton’s new owner.
During Monday afternoon, the Chinese real estate tycoon bought the 80% of Southampton shares for around £200 million.
According to Financial Times, Katharina Liebherr, who was the previous owner of the club, had confirmed this deal stating that her family welcomes the new partners in the organization and that they expect huge successes in the upcoming years.
The club itself refused to share the financial details of this deal.
This agreement was endangered at one moment because the Chinese government refused to give the authorisation for such a transaction.
Lander Sports, Gao’s company had agreed to the terms with Southampton and previous owner during the last January.
Also, the Premier League had nothing against the deal, and everything was depending on the decision of the Chinese authorities.
Eventually, that went well too. Southampton is the fifth club in the top two English divisions with owners from China. Before the Saints, West Brom Albion, Aston Villa, Birmingham and Wolverhampton also got new bosses from the Far East.
