Newcastle United have completed the signing of midfielder Mikel Merino on loan from Borussia Dortmund. Merino recently played for Spain under-21 side in the European Championships, where they lost to Germany in the final.
He moved to Dortmund from Spanish side Osasuna last summer but failed to establish himself within the first team of the German club, making just nine appearances.
He now becomes Rafa Benitez’s fifth signing of the summer following the likes of Christian Atsu, Flroian Lejeune, Jacob Murphy and Javier Manquillo.
Benitez feels that the youngster can adapt and said of his new star, “He was signed as a young talented player and to be signed by a club like Dortmund shows that he has something good. It remains to be seen whether Merino will be able to adapt too English playing conditions.”
The Magpies will be hoping that Merino will boost the quality of their squad as they prepare for life in the Premier League.
