Club America Injury Win: Cristián Borja Trains Fully Three Days After Stretcher Exit

Club America players in training

Club América have received a timely boost ahead of Saturday’s trip to León. According to RÉCORD, left back Cristián Borja trained normally with the squad on Tuesday and is available to head coach Guillermo Almada for the Jornada 12 match, after the knee knock that forced him off against Monterrey turned out to be nothing more than a blow.

Borja was carried off on a stretcher in the 74th minute of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Monterrey after a clash of knees, and his status had been the main open question in the squad all week, with the club yet to publish an official medical report. RÉCORD reports the Colombian trained without issue on Tuesday, just three days after the injury scare, and is in line to keep his place at left back.

With Cristián Borja cleared, RÉCORD reports Club América will travel to Guanajuato at full strength apart from one man. The same report says striker Miguel Borja will be the squad’s only absentee on Saturday. The Colombian serves a one-match suspension after the straight red card he received in the 87th minute against Monterrey, when a yellow card was upgraded by VAR following his challenge on Carlos Salcedo.

It is a significant boost for Almada. Borja has made the left back spot his own, and the scare carried extra weight because a knee ligament injury ended his Clausura 2026 early, in the Liguilla series against Pumas UNAM last May. Losing him again, on top of Miguel Borja’s suspension, would have left Club América short on the left side for a visit to a ground where they rarely win, against a León side sitting fifth in the table. Instead, Almada takes a full strength back line into the first of two away matches in five days.

Club América travel to León at the top of the Apertura 2026 table on 21 points. The test is a real one: León are unbeaten in four straight matches, and América have won only four times at León’s stadium since La Fiera returned to the first division in 2012.

Saturday’s match is the first of two in five days for Almada’s side, with Atlas away to follow on Wednesday, October 21. For the full list of upcoming fixtures and U.S. viewing information, see the Club América watch page.
