Sunderland have reportedly begun talks with Aston Villa over bringing in Ross McCormack on a season long loan in order to replace Jermain Defoe who left the Black Cats to join Bournemouth following their relegation from the Premier League last season.
The 30-year-old McCormack is reportedly being allowed to leave Villa this summer and manager Steve Bruce also opted not to select him for the club’s pre-season tour of Germany.
McCormack joined the Villains from Fulham for £12 million last summer. He however failed to impress and was sent on loan to Nottingham Forest for the second half of the season.
The Black Cats are interested because they need new established strikers for next season after losing Defoe as well as Fabio Borini this summer. Though McCormack is currently not in the best of form, manager Simon Grayson will hope that he can help the forward reignite his career.
McCormack is one of the most experienced forwards in the Championship so he may be a good option for Sunderland.
