According to reports, Manchester United have given up on trying to sign Eric Dier after Tottenham are refusing to part ways with their star.
Jose Mourinho is looking to sign a new defensive midfielder ahead of next season and had reportedly made Dier a priority signing this summer but the Portuguese boss looks set to miss out.
Dier’s current contract with the North London club runs until 2021, which means that it will be difficult for United to reach an agreement with Spurs – especially given that the player has also not indicated a desire to leave the club.
Whether the Red Devils do however manage to recruit Dier in the near future may depend on the Lillywhites managing to win major silverware in the coming years.
The 23-year-old is very versatile being able to operate in defence as well as in midfield and impressed for Mauricio Pochettino’s side last season, helping the club finish in second position on the Premier League standings.
