Opinion: Chelsea’s Early Woes

After four matches played in the Premier League this year, a few surprises will immediately draw your attention when looking at the league table. Although of course it is too early to say that Stoke will get relegated or Manchester City will win the league, a lot of things can happen over the grueling 38 match season, plus cup ties and European matches.

But perhaps the one club that has everyone shocked early on is Chelsea football club. Last seasons winners have been anything but a resemblance of that this term. The Blues has looked sluggish, boring at times and a shadow of the team that took the title last season.

A few different things could be to blame so far. The defensive play of John Terry is making fans think that this guy has to go to MLS soon. Compared to last year, the longtime Chelsea skipper looks like he has played his last season with the club. Cesc Fabregas looks dull and there seems to be a lack of creativity and connectivity between the players in the midfield and in the attacking third.

Kurt Zouma seems like he is not a player that is fit to play in the Premier League. Kennedy is looking like a nice addition but only time will tell if he lives up to the expectation. Chelsea is 13th in the table as of today and has one win, one draw and two loses. Mourinho will have to make some changes as he knows that the owner of Chelsea, Roman Abramovich, is breathing down his neck to get results after a huge failure in the Champions League last season.

Then again, this could all be just a slow start and the club will get things together. The preseason for Chelsea saw the club travelling across of the pond to the United States in which left the players tired. Slow starts are nothing new to big clubs and with the special one at the helm, Chelsea will figure out a way to finish top four this season.

Anything can happen over the next few months, but it has been seen already that Chelsea and Mourinho need to make some changes either to the lineup or the formation.
