Southgate reveals who is England’s secret weapon

Pochettino

England national team manager Gareth Southgate has hailed Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino as being England’s secret weapon.

Since taking over Spurs in 2014, Pochettino has transformed the North London club into one of the best teams in England. He has also played a massive role in helping players such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Kyle Walker Danny Rose and Eric Dier achieve stardom.

Southgate did work with Kane while with the England under 21 setup, however the player was often left on the bench.

Today that seems unthinkable with the England senior side as Kane is arguably England’s best striker having finished as the Premier League’s top scorer during the past two consecutive seasons.

Southgate has now acknowledged that players such as Kane have benefitted from working with Pochettino and said, “The biggest change has been physical. Since Mauricio has been there the conditioning work they do has improved the team and Harry has benefited from that.

“He looks strong, lean, a little bit quicker and sharper. The biggest change has been physical, and then that has an effect on your mentality.”
