Brighton and Hove Albion failed in their attempts to sign striker Vincent Janssen from Tottenham after the player decided against a move.
Brighton were looking to bolster their attack as they have found goals hard to come by this season and to boost their chances of survival this season.
They tasted defeats at the hands of Manchester City and Leicester City during their opening two games before drawing against Watford last weekend.
Manager Chris Hughton tried his luck at signing Janssen on deadline day after also missing out on signing Deportivo La Coruna forward Florin Andone and Fiorentina striker Khouma Babacar but was ultimately unsuccessful.
Janssen is likely to find game time hard to come by at Spurs this season following the arrival of Fernando Llorente.
Had he moved to Brighton, he would have definitely seen more regular game time. It is now up to him to try and work hard to win a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s team after underperforming last season.
