Ex-Chelsea star explains why Tottenham need to sign new goalkeeper

Hugo Lloris

Tony Cascarino has revealed that he believes that Tottenham may need to buy a new goalkeeper if they wish to win a major trophy.

Cascarino believes that the French international Hugo Lloris has failed to improve during his time at the club and that this could hinder the team’s chances of breaking their trophy drought of nine years.

Though the 30-year-old Lloris is the captain and is a well-liked face among Tottenham faithful, he was at fault for the goal which resulted in his team losing 2-1 to Chelsea during the weekend.

While speaking about the goalkeeper, Cascarino said, “Do I see an improving goalkeeper in Lloris? I don’t think he has improved. I look at him and feel he is the same goalkeeper I saw three or four years ago.

“Mistakes like yesterday happen every now and again to Hugo Lloris and I’m not convinced Hugo is the goalkeeper to take Tottenham to the top of the table and win a league or win a major competition.”

Many will certainly disagree with Cascarino’s comments as all goalkeepers make errors and there is no doubt that Lloris is arguably one of the finest shot-stoppers in world football currently despite the error.
