Former Tottenham manager Martin Jol has revealed that Barcelona ace Luis Suarez almost ended up at Tottenham rather than at former club Liverpool.
Jol who managed the Lilywhites from 2004 to 2007 revealed that he was asked about his opinion on the Uruguay international as the North London club were interested in signing him.
Suarez eventually went on to join Liverpool in 2011 from Ajax and it was at the Merseyside club that he established himself as one of the most lethal forwards in World football.
Jol has now revealed that he almost was a Spurs player and said, “Suarez nearly played for Tottenham. They phoned me about him and I said, ‘He’s unbelievable’. And he was £25m!
“Ok, times change and Luis Suarez, two months later he was at Liverpool and I couldn’t understand why Spurs didn’t take him.”
Spurs may have ended up regretting why they had not signed Suarez at the time.
