22-year-old has confirmed that he will not be joining Tottenham this summer

Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez has confirmed that he will not be returning to Tottenham next season following his loan spell with the North London club last term.

Despite failing to break into the first team last season, the 22-year-old Lopez is said to have impressed Mauricio Pochettino. Lopez served as third choice last season behind backup Michel Vorm and first choice Hugo Lloris.

Spurs had an opportunity to buy Lopez for £6.2 million, though they tried to negotiate for another loan deal rather than buying which failed to materialize.

The Spanish international Lopez has now confirmed that he will shift his focus onto playing first team football for Espanyol instead.

He said, “I do not know where all this comes from, nobody has told me that [Espanyol] do not count on me and I will be here all season, no matter what.

“I am happy to be at home because Espanyol is my home and I am happy with my teammates. When you spend one year away you value even more when you return.”
