Brian Rodríguez will not start for Club América against Toluca tonight. The Uruguayan winger drops to the bench in a decision based on rest and load management, according to Gibrán Araige of TUDN.
It is not an injury. Araige reported that Guillermo Almada and his staff made the call after monitoring Rodríguez’s physical wear, with the end of the Apertura 2026 regular season and the Liguilla in mind.
“Brian Rodríguez no será titular. No va de inicio, estará en la banca. Una decisión técnica. Obviamente pensada en el tema del cansancio, del desgaste,” Araige said.
The expectation is that Rodríguez still plays a part. Araige reported he will likely appear in the second half.
Perea Gets the Start on the Left
Óscar Perea takes Rodríguez’s place in the starting attack. The Colombian starts on the left of the attacking trident.
Carlos Álvarez plays in the center, with Isaías Violante on the right.
There had been a case for Derek Jiménez, the 19-year-old who impressed against Tijuana in midweek. Araige reported the staff chose Perea instead.
RÉCORD reported the same bench decision independently and projected the rest of the eleven around it, with Luis Ángel Malagón in goal and Henry Martín leading the line.
A Pattern of Managed Minutes
This is the second straight match in which Rodríguez does not start. He also began on the bench in Wednesday’s makeup match against Tijuana and came on in the second half.
Almada’s staff uses monitoring technology to track player workload across the season. Araige has reported on that approach before, and this decision follows it directly.
The aim, per the report, is for Rodríguez to reach the final stretch of the tournament in the best possible physical shape.
América host Toluca at Estadio Banorte tonight in Jornada 15, kickoff 9:10 PM Central. Here is where to watch Club América in the United States.
