A new season of the Liga MX is about to begin as the Clausura 2020 kicks off this Friday. While the international signing period does not end until January 31, there has already been a good amount of incoming transfers made from foreign players. This list will show which new foreign (NFM) players to the league will make the greatest impact this season.
3. Jorge Valvidia, Chile – Monarcas Morelia
Jorge Valvidia may be the most famous foreign player to join the Liga MX this season. The Chilean midfielder also known as ‘el mago’ has had a successful career both on club and international levels. The 36-year-old has participated in two World Cups and played for important clubs like Colo-Colo and Palmeiras. He will help Monarcas with his leadership and experience, yet his age may be a factor to become a top player in the Liga MX.

2. Christian Rivera, Colombia – Xolos of Tijuana
Christian Rivera is a central midfielder who joins Club Tijuana after spending the last few years of his career at Deportivo Cali. Not much at all has been said throughout the major media outlets about the 23-year-old, yet he was a fan-favorite in his previous team. Rivera is not a prolific goalscorer, but he is a work-horse with a great touch who can be a leader in the midfield. Xolos is known for signing unknown South American midfielders who then turn into stars (think Guido Rodriguez), and Rivera has all the chance to follow the same lead.
1. Nicolas Lopez, Uruguay – Tigres UANL

Nicolas Lopez is by far the most important international signing for the upcoming Clausura 2020. The Uruguayan forward quickster was transferred for $9 million after spending the last few years with Brazil’s SC Internacional. The 26-year-old has also played in Italy and Spain but really reached his best form while in the Brasileirao. Lopez will make a great addition to an already stuffed Tigres offense. Let’s hope Ricardo Ferretti gives him the opportunity to shine.
With more than two weeks left before the international signing season ends, it is very probable that more top foreign signings are made. Monterrey has yet to sign any players and it is rumored that Argentine defender Ramiro Funes Mori will join brother. Also, Club America is said to be about to sell Guido Rodriguez to Real Betis, opening a spot in the midfield for a new signing.
New players will join the Liga MX in the coming days, but as of now, these three players have all the tools to make an instant impact in the league.
