This Wednesday, March 7, 2018 (7:00 PM Pacific) Seattle Sounders FC will host Chivas of Guadalajara at CenturyLink Field for the first leg of a quarterfinal match in the CONCACAF Champions League. This game has the potential to an even encounter given the strong squads and forms of the two teams.
The Seattle Sounders are coming off a dreadful MLS season-opener as they lost 1-0 against the newly-founded LAFC at CenturyLink Field. The American team also struggled against Santa Tecla in the round of 16 of the CCL. The Sounders defeated the Salvadorian team by an aggregate score of 5-2 but lost the first leg away from home 2-1.
Uruguayan midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro was one of the standouts of that series as he scored two goals throughout the two legs. Brian Schmetzer has a talented side with players like Clint Dempsey and Roman Torres who know the Mexican game very well. It could be a tough series but the Sounders will need to use their home-field advantage to full-extent in this first leg.
Chivas of Guadalajara has been a very disappointing team over the past couple of seasons in the Liga MX. Los Rojiblancos are currently in 16th place with just eight points and making the playoffs seems almost impossible at this point of the season. Matias Almeyda will need to focus his efforts on the CONCACAF Champions League because competing for the Liga MX title is very unlikely this season.
Chivas has decent players on its squad like Rodolfo Pizarro and Orbelin Pineda but it is unclear if they will perform well in this match due to their constant inconsistencies. The team from Guadalajara defeated Cibao 7-0 in the round of 16 will now face a much more difficult opponent in Seattle.

There is no clear winner heading into this game especially with Chivas’ current form but it should prove to be a very entertaining encounter. FutnSoccer predicts a 1-1 draw at CenturyLink Field as Seattle will have the home-field advantage but Chivas arguably has the better team.
