Celtic blow as suitors reportedly look to outbid them in the pursuit of Rodgers-admired player

Celtic vs Hearts

According to The Scottish Sun, Dundee defender and Celtic winter transfer target Jack Hendry is wanted by Premier League duo Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, both of whom are ready to outbid the Hoops.

The Dark Blues have held out for £1.5million for the signature of the 22-year-old, but Brendan Rodgers’ side aren’t willing to meet their asking price and have already tabled an £800,000 offer.

However, Bournemouth are lining up a £1million bid for the Scotland youth international centre-half, while Palace are expected to enter into the bidding war.

Celtic need another top quality signing in the heart of their defence, and Hendry has already caught the eyes of manager Rodgers.

He declared of the youngster months ago after both sides clashed: “The boy Hendry at the back I thought was excellent. He’s quick and strong and is a good size.

“Scotland need centre halves and that looks like a good kid. He’s tall, he can run and he can pass. He looks a talent.”

Hendry could be a long-term addition to Celtic or the next one to fetch them a Virgil van Dijk-esque windfall, but it does seem a return south of the border is more likely for the ex-Partick Thistle and Wigan man.
