Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley has sent a message to his former Everton team-mate James McCarthy.
McCarthy suffered a serious injury during the Toffees 1-1 Premier League draw with West Brom on Saturday.
The 27-year-old suffered a double leg break following a tackle on Salomon Rondon and had to be taken off on a stretcher. He is now likely to be out for the rest of the season.
This will surely be a cause of major frustration to the Republic of Ireland international McCarthy who has a long history of injury problems.
Meanwhile it will also be a blow to Everton who are in a precarious position. Though the Toffees are in ninth position, they are just several points clear of the relegation zone.
Barkley feels sorry for McCarthy and has taken to Twitter to voice support for his former team-mate.
He posted on Twitter: “Devastated for you @JMcCarthy_16, wishing you a speedy recovery lad.”
