Aston Villa receive huge boost in promotion aspirations due to EPL giants

Aston Villa have received a huge boost in their aims to win promotion as Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he will not be recalling goalkeeper Sam Johnstone from his loan spell this month.

There was a recall option on Johnstone’s deal as he joined the Claret and Blue on a season long loan deal during the summer.

Considering that there was interest from Premier League clubs, there was speculation suggesting that United could opt to recall the keeper this month.

However Mourinho confirmed that Johnstone along with fellow loan players Andreas Pereira and Timothy Fosu-Mensah will not be recalled.

He said: “Sam Johnstone at Aston Villa is playing all the time and is an important player for them and they are going to fight for promotion. We are happy to have him there. Pereira is happy. He’s playing.

“And Tim Fosu-Mensah’s getting matches in Crystal Palace – so nobody is coming back.”
