According to the Daily Record, Dundee are ready to slap a £1.5million asking price on centre-back and Celtic target Jack Hendry in order to shoo off suitors.
Manager Neil McCann isn’t keen on letting the highly-rated 22-year-old leave midway through the campaign, and with the Hoops said to be preparing an £800,000 bid, he wants to ensure their attempts gets frustrated.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers wants another centre-back despite just bringing in Marvin Compper from RB Leipzig, and Hendry is his number 1 choice.
The youngster is admired by the Northern Irishman who said of him last October following a laboured 1-nil over Dundee: “The boy Hendry at the back I thought was excellent. He’s quick and strong and is a good size. Scotland need centre halves and that looks like a good kid. He’s tall, he can run and he can pass. He looks a talent.”
Given his ball-playing abilities and huge talents, Hendry fits the bill at Parkhead and would be a perfect long-term addition to the ranks going forward.
With Dundee looking to hold on to their man, Celtic will have to part with almost double of their budget for the player if they are to have a chance.
For £1.5million, Hendry will be deemed a big buy for Celtic, but it remains to be seen if they are ready to break the bank for a defender right now.
