Arsenal are prepared to lose Chile international Alexis Sanchez in the coming days, with Manchester United said to be favourites to land the 29-year-old forward.
As a replacement, the Gunners are looking to bring Bordeaux 20-year-old sensation Malcom to north London, with a £45million move being mulled over.
However, it seems Liverpool are looking to hijack the deal going by recent comments from the manager of the Ligue 1 club Jocelyn Gourvennec.
He replied thus when asked about Malcom’s future at Bordeaux: “He’s committed. He’s a bit, like he was in the summer…I wouldn’t say he has been disturbed by it, that’s a bit strong, he’s not disturbed, but he is asking questions.
“He’s asking himself what’s the best thing for him, for his future. That’s logical. If he’s asking questions and he still manages to make assists or score goals, it’ll be fine.
“If Liverpool want you to work for them tomorrow, you’d go. I’m a coach, I’d like to be able to count on Malcom, Malcom has to help us.
“There is one person who decides in this, that’s the majority shareholder. He talked about this at the weekend, but football remains football.”
While Liverpool aren’t lacking firing power in attack, adding the Brazilian sensation to the squad will even make them more formidable. Malcom has been in explosive form this term, scoring 7 goals and assisting 5 others thus far.
However, with Mohamed Salah to contend with for a starting spot on the right of the attack, the youngster’s chances of playing regularly at Liverpool are limited, and his manager’s reference of Liverpool might just be a slip of the tongue.
Or maybe not.
