Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher feels that the Reds did a wrong thing by selling Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona this month.
Following months of speculation surrounding the future of the Brazilian, he finally moved to the Camp Nou this month in a deal worth around €160 million.
Coutinho wanted to move to the club where many South American legends have played their football and he even tried to force through a move during the summer when he handed in a transfer request to Liverpool.
Coutinho was one of the best players within the Liverpool first team and his loss will surely be felt by the club. Carragher also believes that a sale should not have taken place this month.
He said: “I can’t understand Liverpool’s decision to sell Coutinho now. Not mid-season.
“No matter how much I hear about boyhood dreams; efforts to convince him to stay and how much family, representatives or even sponsors pushed for it, why this month? The financial reward is vast. So is the risk. Liverpool are well placed to finish runners-up to Manchester City.
“They have a kind Champions League draw. The Liverpool team of January 2018 is superior to that of January 2005, which won the competition. They have lost just four of their last 44 games, continuously improving. Why endanger momentum?”
