Leeds and Aston Villa battling to sign Newcastle United outcast

Leeds United and Aston Villa look set to battle in the race to sign Jack Colback from Newcastle United.

Colback has failed to establish himself in the first team plans of the Toons this season upon their return to the Premier League and has reportedly been informed by manager Rafa Benitez that he is free to leave the club.

Though the likes of Villa and Leeds are interested in Colback, he is also the type of player that could attract interest from Premier League clubs especially given that he boasts 178 Premier League appearances for Sunderland and Newcastle.

Toons manager Benitez confirmed that Colback has no future with his club when he said: “He knows what the situation is and we will continue working with the players we have available now.

“He knew from the beginning that we have four or five midfielders and I didn’t want to have six.

“We could not manage to move any more players out at the end of the transfer window and you can’t train as well with as many players around in the same position.”
