Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has denied claims made by Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino that he rejected an opportunity to move to Spurs because of Harry Kane.
The Spaniard Morata ended up joining Chelsea from Real Madrid during the summer transfer window for a fee of £70 million and Pochettino revealed that he had had a conversation with the striker about potentially joining Chelsea about two years ago or more.
Pochettino recently confirmed that he wanted to sign Morata and said: “Morata talked about myself, in the media he said ‘Mauricio called me’. That was two years ago or more. He said to me: ‘Why do you want me if you have Harry Kane?'”
Morata has however now claimed that the presence of Kane played no role in the move which did not materialize.
“No it’s not true,” Morata said. “I spoke with him and he said he wanted both [of us] to play together, but there was no chance to come to Tottenham.
“For sure I would like to play with Kane, he’s a big player, one of the best strikers in the world, but in this moment when I spoke with him (Pochettino) there was no chance to leave Real Madrid.
Morata has quickly adapted to life in England and has already scored 12 goals in all competitions for Chelsea this season.
Kane meanwhile has established himself as one of the best and most talked about strikers in world football.
