Everton and West Ham have been dealt a crushing blow in their pursuit of Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi as the French international could make a u-turn of his earlier decision to leave next month.
As per reports, new Sevilla boss Vincenzo Montella sees the 29-year-old as a big part of his plans and is planning to convince him into staying.
N’Zonzi has been out of the team since getting withdrawn during the 3-3 Champions League draw with Liverpool in November, and a strained relationship with erstwhile boss Eduardo Berizzo put the Toffees, Hammers, Liverpool and Arsenal on alert.
However, the Merseyside and London duos will have to look elsewhere for the power they crave in midfield as the Europa League winning-midfielder will likely be in Spain till at least summer.
West Ham have been in pursuit of a defensive midfielder since failing to land Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho during the summer, while Everton’s interest in N’Zonzi is a result of boss Sam Allardyce keen on adding more bite to the middle of the park.
The latest development at Sevilla, however, means an EPL return won’t be happening anytime soon for the French powerhouse.
