Mick Quinn has said that Liverpool signing Virgil Van Dijk is more important than whether the club manages to keep Philippe Coutinho.
On Wednesday it was announced that Southampton and Liverpool had agreed to a £75 million sale of Van Dijk. The move made the Dutch international the most expensive defender in World football.
Jurgen Klopp’s sides defence has been leaky this season and the addition of Van Dijk, who is regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League will help them.
Quinn told TalkSport: “I think they can get away with Van Dijk rather than Coutinho because they desperately need someone to come into that back four.
“I just think they’ve got Keita coming next summer and they have a lot of flair players to cover Coutinho. Lallana is still to come back and in full flow again so they’re covered. He’s a huge miss. He’s been involved in every goal and he’s yet to reach his peak.”
