A new goalkeeper remains top agenda of Newcastle’s January transfer plans after they failed to land one during the summer transfer window, and according to Scouts in Attendance, the Toons are keeping tabs on Olympiacos shot stopper Stefanos Kapino.
The 23-year-old recently lost his starting berth despite being the number 1 choice for the Greek giants last term, and an exit next month looks to be on the card.
Manager Rafa Benitez isn’t convinced with the quality of goalkeeping duo Karl Darlow and Robert Elliot, and Kapino looks like an upgrade.
The ex-Panathinaikos and Mainz 05 goalie helped the former to the Greek Cup back in 2013-14 before helping Olympiakos to back-to-back Superleague Greece titles in the last 2 campaigns.
Kapino also boasts of a lot of experience on continental level having been a constant name on the team sheet during previous and this term’s Champions League campaign, while he has 9 caps for his country.
Kapino also has a lot of years ahead of him and is certain to be available for cheap once Newcastle approach Olympiakos for his services, hence going for his signature could be worth it.
