As per The Telegraph, West Ham are keen on the services of Swansea City centre-back Alfie Mawson ahead of the January transfer window.

Hammers boss David Moyes has plans to shore up his rearguard for the second half of the campaign and has identified the £25million-rated England youth international as his top target.

The 23-year-old has been a mainstay in the Swansea starting XI this term, playing every minute of the Premier League till date.

While the relegation-threatened side won’t be willing to easily let one of their best men go, they are badly in need of funds to recruit after missing the influence of the departed duo of sales of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fernando Llorente.

Mawson has what it takes to grow into a top defender under Moyes having already shown great potential last term.

The Englishman impressed during the second half of the campaign, landing himself a permanent berth, weighing in 4 goals at the other end and earning himself an England Under-21 call up.

Mawson subsequently impressed at the European Championship, and his aerial prowess and willingness to put his body on the line are 2 features West Ham can hugely benefit from.
