Leeds United reportedly open talks over a deal for EPL defender

According to reports, Leeds United have opened talks with Everton with a view to signing Matthew Pennington on a permanent basis.

The 23-year old arrived at Elland Road during the summer transfer window on loan and the Whites hierarchy are now convinced that the player should form part of the clubs long-term plans.

Penniington has been unable to establish himself within the Toffees first team for whom he boasts just nine appearances.

Should he return to Liverpool, he will find it difficult to break into the clubs first team so a permanent transfer to Leeds is perhaps a move that would suit all parties.

Pennington is versatile, being able to play anywhere across the back-line.

Everton will likely allow him to be sold at a reasonable value and he certainly does have the capabilities to establish himself as a first team regular and fan-favourite amongst Whites fans going forward.
