Tottenham and Liverpool reportedly battle over £35million-rated ex-Barcelona fullback next month

As per Portuguese outlet A Bola, Tottenham are keen on Benfica left-back Alex Grimaldo as they seek a long-term replacement for the wantaway Danny Rose.

The former Barcelona B defender has also caught the eyes of Liverpool with his performances, with reports claiming Benfica are only ready to let the 22-year-old leave for £35million.

Both Premier League sides are expected to bid for Grimaldo next month, with the likes of Juventus also keen.

The Spaniard has been more than decent for the Portuguese giants this term, notching 3 assists in 9 league games.

He could be a great upgrade on the current primary left-back options available at Anfield, with his ability to deliver key passes and crosses something the Reds can do with at that side of the pitch.

However, manager Jurgen Klopp has up to 4 players able to take shifts in the position, and it is impossible to see him sanctioning a £35million deal for another left-back.

Spurs on the other hand would be left with only Ben Davies when Rose eventually leaves, and Grimaldo could prove to be a perfect cover and competition they need.

His release clause would also be a cause for concern, though, and Benfica will have to shift the goalpost if they really want to sell their man.
