Paul Merson believes that Liverpool will look to sign Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere in January should he be made available.
The injury prone Wilshere’s current contract at the Emirates Stadium is set to expire at the end of the season and manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that talks will be held later this month.
Wilshere was linked with a move away from the Gunners during the summer transfer window but in the end he chose to stay put at the club and attempt to fight his way back into the first team.
Though he has seen regular game time in the Europa League, this has not been the case in the Premier League which has led to speculation surrounding his future.
Merson believes that Liverpool will attempt to sign Wilshere should he be made available. He said: “Everton, West Ham, I think anybody after them. Man City, no. Chelsea, I don’t think so.
“Liverpool maybe, I think Liverpool would take him all day long. They rely on Coutinho to break people down, if you get Jack Wilshere as well then you’ve got two people who can break people down.
“At the moment they are very reliant on Coutinho. If Coutinho doesn’t do it, there are not too many others who can put the ball through the eye of a needle who play for Liverpool. For me I think Liverpool would be all over him.”
