According to The Mirror, Liverpool have suffered a blow as they have lost out to Ajax in the race to sign Perr Schuurs.
The 18 year old is a highly rated young prospect and has been linked with Liverpool, however he has opted to remain and continue his development in his native homeland of Holland.
It was reported in May that Schuurs had travelled to England to undergo a trial with Liverpool as he prepared to leave Dutch second tier side Fortuna.
Liverpool focused a lot of attention and energy onto monitoring Schuurs and this will come as a disappointment to them.
However from Schuurs perspective, remaining in Holland may be a good decision. Had he gone to the Reds, it is likely that he would either have to warm the bench or undergo loan spells with lower League teams.
At Ajax, he may be groomed and this will help his confidence.
