Liverpool have suffered a transfer blow as their target goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has signed a new deal with Inter Milan which will run until 2021. The deal virtually means that the Slovenian will end up finishing his career with Inter.
Handanovic said after signing his new deal: “I am privileged to be Inter’s starting goalkeeper. It is an honor to play for Inter and to be part of the history of this club. There have been so many top goalies who have played for Inter over the years and with this renewal, I also hope to be remembered by the fans.
“December? Well for us it will be very important since there are many games to be played. We are fully focused on our game against Chievo Verona as we don’t want to look too far.
“The fans? We we are very happy that many fans have been coming to the stadium, it is an important signal. We always try to respond on the pitch and that’s what we want to do against Chievo. They have been doing very well but we want to do good too. We have to be well prepared.”
Jurgen Klopp’s side have so far looked promising in attack this season with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino being solid for the most part. They have however struggled defensively and this has cost them dearly.
Both Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet have been given opportunities in goal and neither has been able to fully convince that they are capable of holding down the first choice goalkeeping spot on a regular basis.
This has led to speculation that the club will consider buying a new keeper and Handanovic is one of the names who they have been linked with but they now look set to miss out.
