Former Everton star Leon Osman has backed David Moyes to be a star at West Ham. Moyes was appointed as new Hammers manager on Tuesday following the sacking of Slaven Bilic the previous day.

His task is to improve the fortunes of the struggling East London club. They are currently languishing in 18th position on the Premier League standings after taking just nine points from their opening 11 games of the League.

Many fans of the Hammers are skeptical over the club’s decision to appoint Moyes to succeed Bilic considering that his past three managerial spells with the likes of Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland were unsuccessful.

Osman, who worked under Moyes at Everton, believes that the 54-year-old can turn around the fortunes of the struggling East London club.

Moyes said: “Absolutely [he’ll keep them up]. He is a top coach and a top manager. He obviously has had a difficult couple of years but he has learned from that, he is different to what he was, he is better than what he was.

“He’s gone there with something to prove and the team he has assembled around him were with him at Everton so he’ll be hoping he has the same success at West Ham.”
