Aston Villa boss Bruce says he can use this player as replacement for Terry

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has admitted that Tommy Elphick could make a return to the first team.

Elphick appears to be surplus to requirements at Villa after losing form towards the end of last season and falling down the pecking order at the club. He was yet to make a League appearance for the club this season.

It is hard to see Elphick winning back a regular place in the first team anytime soon given that John Terry and James Chester have managed to form a good partnership in defence.

Terry however did suffer an injury during Villa’s loss to Sheffield Wednesday during the weekend and this has led to suggestions that Elphick could be set to make a first team return.

When asked if Elphick could form part of his selection plans, Bruce said: “I’m not closing the door on anybody.

“Tommy Elphick is an experienced player, obviously he hasn’t been involved of late with the form of Chester and Terry but he’ll come back into the reckoning, of course.”
