Liverpool legend Nicol says he still prefers Klopp over Simeone

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has revealed that he would rather have Jurgen Klopp as manager of the Reds than Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone.

Klopp received criticism for his approach this season as a result of the Reds underwhelming form to start this season which saw them lose comprehensively against Manchester City and against Tottenham.

However their attacking prowess was shown this weekend as they claimed a convincing 4-1 victory through a brace from Mohamed Salah and further goals form Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The club have also had their defensive problems well-documented.

Despite this, Nicol revealed that he prefers having Klopp in charge of the club over Simeone, who is a defensive minded coach.

When asked about having Simeone in charge of the club he said: “I’m still in the Klopp camp. As bad as they are defensively, it’s hard not to point the finger, somewhat, at the coach.

“But, at the same time, if you don’t have the personnel, it don’t matter how good a coach you are, if you don’t have the personnel you’re not gonna change an awful lot.

“I did say you somewhat have to have a go at him. If they can’t do it, they can’t do it, regardless of however much you talk to them.”
