Newcastle reportedly in 3-way race for high-scoring South American midfielder

As per the Daily Mirror, Newcastle have joined Arsenal and Inter Milan in going after Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron, with a winter move on the cards.

The £15million-rated Paraguay international has been a key cog in the heart of the MLS side’s midfield, impressing since joining from Argentine topflight side Lanus in December 2016.

Almiron, 23, made the MLS All-Star team for 2017 having shone in what was a great individual and club campaign.

The Paraguayan scored 9 goals and helped grateful teammates to 8 others in 31 MLS games this term.

Apart from being able to play in centre and attacking midfield, Almiron is also able to play as a striker and winger, and his versatility and eye for goal will definitely come handy for this Newcastle side.

He was rated the best under-24 player in the league having made the official Team of the Week on 7 occasions and won 2 Player of the Week prizes.

Given his form and style of play; crossing, playing through balls and laying key passes being his most standout qualities, Almiron is definitely ready for the big move to Europe, and the Magpies will do well to land him for the conclusive half of the campaign.
