Newcastle to battle Arsenal in the race for South American playmaker

Newcastle United are set to battle against Arsenal in the race to sign Atlanta United playmaker Miguel Almiron according to Calcio Mercato. After scoring five goals from 44 games, Almiron earned himself a move to Atlanta United earlier this year.

He has continued to impress in the United States and has so far notched nine goals as well as eight assists from just 30 games.

The report from Calcio Mercato has claimed that Arsenal are considering a swoop for Almiron to challenge for the position of Mesut Ozil, who has been linked with a move away from the Gunners during the summer.

It has also been added that the Magpies are considering signing Almiron in order to provide competition for Ayoze Perez in midfield. Though Perez has performed decently this season, he has been criticized for a lack of creativity.

Though convincing Atlanta to part ways with their prized asset may not be easy, Almiron will surely be tempted by the chance to play in England.
