West Ham handed boost as Liverpool suffer crushing blow ahead of clash

West Ham face one of the toughest sides in the league in Liverpool on Saturday, and while the Hammers expect their home support to roar them to a result, the Red’s injury concerns could make the clash less herculean than anticipated.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will be without midfield powerhouse Georginio Wijnaldum after the 26-year-old Netherlands international picked up an ankle injury during Wednesday’s 3-nil Champions League win over Maribor.

Philippe Coutinho and Dejan Lovren are also huge doubts for the West Ham game, and despite the availability of quality options to replace the trio, it can be argued that Liverpool won’t be on their strongest and best form without them.

Klopp told the press thus of his side’s injury shortcomings: “I don’t think Phil will be able to play, with Dejan (Lovren) it’s different, it’s not the same problem as Phil had.

“Gini is out, maybe there will be some wonder with Phil, but I don’t think at the moment that he can play.”

The Hammers are hoping to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace, and putting into consideration how they came from 2-nil down to run out 3-2 winners against Tottenham 2 games ago, a win over Liverpool isn’t out of their reach.
