Newcastle United star Christian Atsu has managed to earn himself a nomination for the Confederation of African Foootball’s African player of the year award.
Among the 30 man shortlist of nominations also includes the likes of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as well as Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang of Borussia Dortmund and Gabon.
Atsu has showed impressive touches for the Magpies and has established himself as a key member of the side having been utilized by manager Rafa Benitez for nine out of ten of the clubs Premier League games thus far.
The awards ceremony is set to be held in Accra, Ghana on January 4 and the winner will be decided by a vote which will be undertaken by the head coaches of the African national associations, members of the CAF Technical and Development Committee and a panel of media experts.
It is an achievement for Atsu to have been nominated but it will be a major surprise if he does end up winning.
