Liverpool goalkeeper Mignolet hits back at his critics

Liverpool first choice goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has shrugged off the intense criticism which he has been receiving recently, claiming that it is “part and parcel of playing for Liverpool”.

Mignolet has the worst saves percentage of any keeper in the Premier League and this is very concerning to fans of the club.

The Reds have also been poor defensively so far this season and have so far conceded 16 goals from their ten League games, which is the most out of the so called top six clubs.

Mignolet is one of the Liverpool players who has come under intense scrutiny recent times along with defender Dejan Lovren particularly after the 4-1 loss against Tottenham two weeks ago.

The keeper has however dismissed the criticism as being normal and speaking after his side’s victory over Huddersfield this weekend, he said: “You know when you play a good game and you know when you play a bad game.

“Normally we play midweek which wasn’t the case this week so that didn’t help because then a lot gets written and a lot gets said. You can only put it behind you with a good performance.

“Everyone deals with criticism in a different way. Some guys read it, some guys don’t really listen to it, some guys try to stay away from it, some guys get angry about it.

“It is just about staying calm, not getting carried away with what is said because that is part and parcel of playing for Liverpool. You have to deal with it as it’s not going to change.

“It is about making sure you get the right reaction. Everyone wanted to respond in a good way with a good performance.”
