Valencia legend Santiago Canizares has revealed that he was not surprised by Everton’s decision to sack manager Ronald Koeman.
The Toffees officially parted ways with the Dutchman on Monday following their slow start to the season. They are currently occupying 18th position on the League standing after taking just eight points from their opening nine games of the season.
Everton are performing poorly currently despite having spent heavily on improving their squad during the summer and Koeman’s failure to find an experienced replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who left the club to join Manchester United during the summer could have ultimately cost him his job.
“When Koeman arrived in Valencia I asked a friend of mine who saw all the Ajax matches and told me that he was able to take advantage of a project that is already rolling and give it continuity, but that he was unable to create a new project,” recalled Canizares.
“He defined him perfectly. Everton signed several important players who arrived for a lot of money and once again have not been able to create a project … he is not a coach who knows how to create a project, hopefully he’ll learn. He came to Valencia to restore a team which was a little broken and broke it even more.”
