Star admits Liverpool are no longer in the Premier League title race

Liverpool defender Joel Matip has admitted that his side are not in the Premier League title race this season following their 4-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham on Sunday.

Spurs completed their  through a brace from in-form striker Harry Kane as well as strikers from Heung-Son Min and Dele Alli.

The win at Wembley Stadium was also a milestone for Mauricio Pochettino as it now means that he has beaten every big team in the Premier League since being appointed as manager in 2014.

The result means that Liverpool are now in ninth position on the League standings with 13 points from nine games.

Following the game, Matip admitted that his side are no longer in the Premier League title race and said: “We gave them the opportunities.

“It was not like they played the perfect balls, we gave them the opportunities – we have to stop the mistakes.”Most teams at home with the stand in their back are always stronger. (Away from home) I am a defender and I should take care of this.

“We don’t think about the title race at the moment, we only try to get back in a good mood for next week.”
