Paul Merson explains why Everton boss Ronald Koeman is lucky

Football pundit Paul Merson has blasted Everton boss Ronald Koeman and added that the Dutchman is lucky to still have his job.

Despite having spent heavily during the summer on bringing in new players, the Toffees are currently struggling in the League and lie in 15th place with eight points from eight games heading into their game against Arsenal on Sunday.

Their Europa League ambitions are also in tatters as they lie at the bottom of their group following defeat against Lyon this week.  Merson believes that Everton have been dreadful so far this season and he also feels that Koeman is lucky to still have his job.

Merson wrote in his column for the Daily Star, “Leicester panicked by sacking Craig Shakespeare but Everton would not be doing the same if they axed Ronald Koeman. Everton spent a huge amount of money in the summer. They were expected to finish at least seventh. Leicester weren’t.

“I feel sorry for Craig but I don’t feel sorry for Koeman. He’s lucky to be in a job after the start they have had. It’s not just the fact they are not getting results, it’s the way they are not getting results.”
