West Ham defender Jose Fonte has issued an apology to fans of his club following their 3-0 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion on Friday.
Following the humiliating loss against the newly promoted side, manager Slaven Bilic admitted that his job could be on the line.
The loss means that the Hammers have picked up just eight points from their nine games played thus fr and they could be in the relegation zone by the end of the weekend.
Veteran striker Glenn Murray opened the scoring for the Seagulls just after ten minutes after nodding in a free-kick from Pascal Gross.
Jose Izquierdo scored the second during second half stoppage time before Murray completed the rout with a penalty conversion in the 75th minute.
Following the game, Fonte told the West Ham website: “We are all disappointed, we are all frustrated and we apologise. It was not the performance we wanted to produce and it wasn’t the performance the fans deserve.
“We need to look at ourselves in the mirror because this cannot happen. It happened a few times last season and we have to put this right.
“We have got to move on. We have a game on Wednesday and we need to go and beat Spurs because we have to react, we have to bounce back.”
