Martin Keown gives his thoughts on whether Koeman should be sacked by Everton

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has suggested that Everton do not need to sack manager Ronald Koeman but instead maintained that the mood at the club needs to change.

Koeman is currently under immense pressure after the Toffees have managed to secure only several points from their opening several matches and recent reports have suggested that he could end up being sacked if things do not improve in the near future.

Keown disagreed that Everton should sack Koeman and told The Daily Mail, “It would be premature to sack him. Do not forget that this is a manager who has been very successful and delivered Everton’s highest finish since 2014.

“He has also had to contend with the departure of a valuable player with RomeluLukaku. What needs to change is the mood at Goodison. I watched their disappointing draw with Apollon Limassol in the Europa League and could see the manager carrying a heavy burden of pressure.

“The mood is affecting the players. I can imagine they were relieved to escape the atmosphere this week when they went away with their national teams.”

After finishing in an impressive seventh position in the Premier League last season, the Merseyside club spent heavily on bolstering their side during the summer and some pundits even touted them to challenge for a top four position this season. However at the moment, they are struggling and look more like a side that will be fighting relegation.
